Currently we are working on the restoration of a 22ft Devonshire workboat; ‘The Puffin’. The list of her ailments was rather vast; she had suffered badly from rot. Her planking had knuckled along the turn of the bilge where she had subsequently been over-caulked, she had also received an awful lot of little lengths of planking butted behind her timbers.

She has received a new set of steamed oak timbers, which will include doublers intermittently to increase her cross-sectional strength. New fashion timbers of English oak have also been fitted.

Her transom will be re-planked above the waterline with English sweet chestnut. Where planking needs to be replaced elsewhere we will use larch grown locally.
