The Wooden Boat Trade Association at The Southampton Boat Show 2011

Once again we shall be exhibiting alongside other WBTA members on our collectively held stand in front of the main entrance to the show. We will be bringing another Walker Dinghy this year; Hannah Lucy was restored during the previous winter, she is a 14ft dayboat built by Walker & Co. in 1972 and testament to the durability of wooden boats. We look forward to meeting some old friends and new and extolling the virtues of the wooden boat.

At the workshop we build, restore and repair wooden boats built using the traditional methods of construction. Our specific field is the clinker craft that once inundated our coastlines and waterways. We have the room to house some very large craft within the workshop but predominantly we recieve craft from ten foot up to perhaps thirty foot.

In the course of a year we have seen over a dozen craft come and go, extensive rebuilds may be with us for up to a year while other craft come for a few weeks to be revarnished or have a plank replaced. We  recieve a lot of Tideways and other craft built by Walker and Co., also Scows from the solent, various  workboats powered by motor oar and sail and the occasional ply boat such as the Wayfarer, we also have a Salcombe Yawl just starting her restoration. The craft we currently have in build is a twelve foot dinghy based on a fine Thames craft built by the esteemed R J Turk of Kingston. We do also undertake various bits of shipwright work in the yards along the coast.

If you have a project we would be happy to discuss it with you.
