Paddle Carving

Paddle Carving

No current dates planned 2016 10am to 5pm

£210 the cost includes all materials lunch, coffee & cake.

In my work I often make spoon oars. They are wonderful things to make because they require so much hand work with drawknife, spokeshave and plane. I have even made my own hand planes to allow me to get into tight hollow areas.

In the course we will be working on the kind of canoe paddles that evolved in North America. Shaping paddles give the opportunity to explore and practice using this variety of hand tools.

You will also have the fruits of your labour to take away at the end of the two days, and I think everyone needs a canoe paddle, even if it means that you go away looking for a boat to go with it. But what this course is about is getting better insight into how to work wood, and building familiarity and skill with hand tools that are used for shaping. Making a paddle gives a good balance of challenges.

The course takes place in the workshop amongst the variety of boats that have come in for repair and restoration

This course is limited to 6 places to make sure that you get good guidance. To book a place please fill in and return our booking form,or for more information please don’t hesitate to call 07932458867
